Are you ready for a new school year?  We are!  And we are excited to have kids join us at MHHS for a new year.  So what’s new at Hat High this year?  Our neighbors and our student drivers will enjoy our new parking lot.  We spent all of last year fighting with the Graham construction workers for parking spaces on the streets around the school.  This year we added 122 new student parking stalls on the north side of the building and wrapping around the newly modernized Medicine Hat High School Performing Arts Centre.  We are also adding the last leg of our new running track to our gym.  When you drive by the school on 7th Street you will be able to notice our students running the south leg of the track from the street.  Academically we added new courses including Computer Science, Digital Arts, World Geography, and Math 10C Prep for students wanting a bit of a boost in math before attempting Math 10C.  We are also continuing to run our recently added new courses including Dance, Psychology, Creative Writing, Guitar/Rock Band, Theatre Arts, Forensics, Anatomy, Golf, and Athletic Performance.  Please check our registration guide for our full list of classes.  We try to encourage kids to take courses that might be useful in their future career path or give them a taste of classes in any given field to see if it is an interest area they wish to pursue in the future.

Communication with home is really important and we strongly encourage parents to look at our school website for important school information. Each student will receive a Student Agenda with dates and information of upcoming events. You can also explore the School and Division websites for more information. Parents are able to keep track of their student’s progress by going to the Parent Portal on PowerSchool. In addition to updating student results viewable on the parent portal, We would also like to remind parents that we will continue to provide a progress report six weeks into each semester, Parent/Student/Teacher interviews nine weeks in, and report cards shortly following. We also welcome phone calls or to meet in person to help plan student progress and plans for improvement with parents. Please feel free to meet with us anytime.

We are proud of the students involved in our extracurricular activities at MHHS. This is a tremendous opportunity for students to expand their high school experience, make new friends, and learn a little bit more about working with and being accountable to other members of a team. This is true in athletics as it is in the performing arts and our student leadership clubs. All are encouraged to get involved. We will start the school year with displays in the halls showcasing opportunities for students to get involved in. Our Football, Volleyball and Cross Country teams are the first teams in season to start the school year. Our Student Council will begin planning spirit activities and dances, the Drama Club will be preparing for the production of It’s a Wonderful Life: Radio Theatre, and the Band will be gearing up for performances and tours.  Student clubs include Rotary Interact, WE Club, Book Club, Comic Book Club, GSA (Gay Straight Alliance), International Club and  Bible Study Club to provide students with opportunities to be involved in our school in many different ways.

Wishing everyone the best in the coming school year.
