Flood Update - June 23

23 Jun

The safety and concern of our students, employees and schools continues to be our first priority. In light of continuing emergency conditions in the city of Medicine Hat and surrounding area, all Medicine Hat School District (MHSD) and Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education (MHCBE) schools within the city of Medicine Hat will be closed on Monday, June 24 and Tuesday June 25. St. Michael’s School in Bow Island will continue to operate as normal. Please consider alternate arrangements for your child for Wednesday June 26 as closures may remain in effect.Secondary Schools (CHHS, McCoy and MHHS) will be open for students who choose to write their diploma exams. Decisions regarding schools for the remainder of the week will be made as quickly as possible. Updates will be provided as soon they become available
All Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests will be cancelled and students will receive their teacher-awarded mark.
.We know that students across the city are experiencing additional stress, anxiety and uncertainty this weekend about examinations. We want to reassure students that they have options when it comes to diploma exams.
MHSD, MHCBE and Alberta Education are working together and we have agreed that full exemptions for all remaining diplomas will be provided for all students. We know that some students may still wish to write the exams, so we will provide students with the opportunity to do so. If students opt not to write the exam, their
teacher-awarded mark will be their final grade. Note: Students also have the option to write their diploma exams at an alternate time in August. No paperwork or action is required by the student to receive an exemption for any remaining diploma exams. Students and families are urged to make the decision that is
best for them and not take unnecessary risks to get to their exam writing location.
Students who opt to write the diploma exams should proceed to either Crescent Heights High School, Monsignor McCoy High School or Medicine Hat High School. MHSD and MHCBE Students living south of the river will be writing exams at MHHS (200 7st SW). MHSD Students living north of the river will be writing exams at CHHS (1201 Divison Ave North). MHCBE Students livingnorth of the river will be writing exams at McCoy(202 * St NE). Transportation will not be provided to students who choose to write their diploma exams. School busses will not be operating.
All diploma exams are scheduled to start at 9:00 am for students who choose to write. Students should bring their school ID or other photo ID (if they do not have their school ID with them) to the exam.
All remaining non-diploma exams for all students will be cancelled and students will receive their teacher awarded grade.
The MHSD and MHCBE are working together to determine the action necessary to keep our schools and students as safe as possible.
Please continue to check the MHSD www.sd76.ab.ca and MHCBE www.mhcbe.ab.ca websites and local media for updates. Thank you for your patience.
