Teachers - English Department Head, Club Advisors - WE Club (formerly Me to We)
It is a pleasure to be part of the MHHS English department. I can think of no better place, no better team of colleagues, and no better students with whom to share my passion for learning, writing, and reading.
My career as a high school English teacher began in 1999 in my hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. After 14 years of teaching in Winnipeg (Slurpee capital), I headed to Medicine Hat, Alberta —a place where innovation in education and curriculum redesign beckoned to me.
I hold an advanced degree in English (B.A. Advanced) and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba. Recently, I completed my Master of Education in Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning with a focus on English curriculum design and teacher identity.
The English department strives to design and provide meaningful and relevant programming that encourages critical and creative thinking about ideas and literature, the way we see ourselves and others, and how we communicate. The Program of Studies for English Language Arts 10, 20, and 30 can be found here: https://education.alberta.ca/english-language-arts-10-12/programs-of-study/
We are pleased to announce a new option course: Creative Writing 15/25/35.
Please contact me if you have any questions about our English programs or sequences.
Also, as advisor for the MHHS WE club, I invite students who are interested in making local and global changes to join us on Thursdays for club meetings during lunch.
